The reality star stunned everyone in on the carpet with her outfit designed by Mugler, who was supposed to be retired.
The Met Gala 2019 witnessed some of the most exaggerated and dramatic costumes that blew us away, and Kim Kardashian West was no exception. She took the 'wet look' to a whole other level (literally) with drops of water splashed across her outfit. The 38-year-old celebrity chose to wear a dramatically beaded latex Thierry Mugler dress for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute’s new theatrical exhibition, “Camp: Notes on Fashion."
She appeared in this tan latex number during the opening of the Gala and told Vogue, "This is the first time in 20 years Mr. Mugler has designed for the House of Mugler. So to come and design this gown for me is such an honor." As reports go this outfit too about eight months to be created to the desired taste. Kim added, "This is about eight months in the making … He envisioned me [as] this California girl stepping out of the ocean, wet, dripping."
Kim chose to complete her ensemble with a "wet hair" look which complimented the dress perfectly. Also, her choice of KKW Beauty and Tatcha makeup products made her glisten all the more. The best part about the whole thing was the attention paid to the details. When observed closely one can see little droplets hanging from her nails which just tied the whole thing together. Before Kardashian West walked down the red carpet, she took a moment to upload pictures of Sophia Loren in Boy on a Dolphin on her Instagram story. Possibly this iconic beauty was the inspiration for her sexy wet dress.
This is definitely not the first time this reality star has worn a Mugler. In fact, the French designer is her go-to designer. During the Hollywood Beauty Awards in April, she chose to wear a bust-taped black vintage gown which she wore which the utmost confidence. Tailored exactly to her shape, the dress was created in a way that it would not shift from its original position all night. "Nothing would have ever made me pop out of that or have me slip. Like, it was so tailored exactly to my body," said Kim according to a report by PEOPLE. Another time she posed as a Greek Goddess in a sheer gown designed by the same house for the opening of the Thierry Mugler exhibition in Montreal.
She dazzled in this gold semi-sheer plastic corset, which was perfectly paired with chunky gold jewelry and heels. Her messy yet chic hairdo accentuated the whole look. Praising the designer's visionary take on fashion Kardashian said, "He always, it’s a full vision from, you know, hair to nails to everything." Continuing with her words of praise for the designer she told PEOPLE earlier this year, "His runway shows were the most legendary and iconic runway shows ever." The star changed into a 'fresh-from-the-ocean' creation by Mugler for the after party. She looked stunning in her blue latex dress with matching gloves and boots.
When asked by Vogue to share her favorite part of the Met Gala experience Kim said, "Once we’re all at the top of the carpet we can all take a deep breath." However, she pointed at the fact that the corset was really fitted, leaving her very little room to breathe. "I don’t know if I can in this corset. I honestly had to practice. It’s a proper corset by Mr. Pearl. I never had one like this, it is insane," added the Keeping Up with the Kardashians star. Every bit of hard work pays off and Kim has her reward waiting in the form of fresh doughnuts. "I have doughnuts waiting for me tomorrow morning, hot, fresh doughnuts. They are special ones from here, vanilla with rainbow sprinkles," she said.
Kanye West, 41, who we haven't seen on the Met Gala carpet since 2016, made an appearance alongside his wife. The reality star reportedly gives all the credit for her outfits inspiration to her singer-husband. "He makes my life so easy," she told PEOPLE back in 2018. "I really do get all of my inspiration from my husband." Kim goes on to reveal how her husband helped her foster strong relationships with some of the well-known designers in the industry. "When I met Kanye and he really started to bring me to Paris he introduced me to a bunch of people. I think one of the first people I met were [designers] Riccardo Tisci and Alber Elbaz," she said. "My style has definitely evolved."
Although her husband Kanye helped her immensely she confesses that her love for fashion began at the tender age of 16 while going through her fashionable mom Kris Jenner's closet. "When I was 16 whenever the time was coming for prom, I would go through my mom’s closet — it was always Mugler, Alaïa, Versace, Chanel — she had the best wardrobe," she told PEOPLE. Talking about mother Kris's generosity she said, "She would always be really generous and share her things with us, like I always wore her Alaïa dresses to parties." Reminiscing those good old days she confessed, "To this day she saved so much of it and she’s given some really cool pieces to me and my sisters. That was such a fun time."
