Teenage Girl Dies From Flu Complications, Four Days Before 14th Birthday

Doctors discovered that Lily Clark had pneumonia and MRSA (methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus) that spread through her body.

A young girl from Idaho has been reported to have died from flu complications on the 5th of January, just four days before she was to turn 14 years of age. Liliana "Lily" Clark, was rushed into emergency care on December 27th with a sore throat and high fever. The doctors diagnosed her with the flu, according to her GoFundMe page. The page itself has raised over $11,000 in less than a week.

Clark was sent home soon after with Tamiflu meds. Three days later, however, her parents had to rush her back to urgent care, when her symptoms took a turn for the worse. She was unable to breathe and her pallor turned green, according to the GoFundMe page. When her parents found Clark's oxygen levels to be only at 60%, the urgent care called for an ambulance and sent the teen to the hospital.

Doctors tried to do everything to resuscitate her, including oxygen masks, which proved to be ineffective. Clark was then sedated and a tube was inserted into her throat, causing her to throw up in the process. They then deduced that Clark had pneumonia and MRSA (methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus) that had spread throughout her whole body. The doctors also found swelling in her brain which resulted in bleeding, according to the page.

Clark was then at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls before she was transferred to Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah. Brain tests later showed no activity from the teen, and she never woke up after that. Clark was pronounced dead on January 5th, at around 4:30 p.m. She was surrounded by her parents, Jennifer and Jose, and family, according to the GoFundMe page. “Lily was an extremely beautiful bright and sweet young lady that had her whole life ahead of her!” the page’s description reads.

"Her mother Jennifer went right back to work as a massage therapist after maternity leave she juggled mom duties and life but with this heartbreaking and life-changing situation Jennifer and Jose took time off work to be by Lily's side."

Clark had three siblings according to the page: her older sister Tahlia, younger brother Arian, and newborn sister Alina. As of Monday morning, the GoFundMe has raised over $11,000 from 167 donors, with a goal price of $15,000.
