Security Guard Killed After He Denied Entry To A Customer For Not Wearing A Mask At A Store

The father of 8 was attacked after telling the 45-year-old woman's daughter she could not come into the shop without a state-mandated mask.

With the ongoing pandemic, there have been certain rules and regulations that have been mandated like wearing masks to protect yourself and others around you. In an unnecessary act of violence, a 43-year-old security guard and a father of eight, who was just doing his duty was brutally murdered. Calvin Munerlyn had refused a woman's daughter entry to a shop because she was not wearing a face mask. He was shot in the back of the head on Friday at the Family Dollar store in Flint, Michigan, one of the US states hardest hit by the pandemic, reports the  BBC. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer had ordered all residents in the Midwestern state to wear face coverings when inside business premises. This was to protect themselves against the Covid-19 pandemic. Stores can refuse service to anyone who does not comply with this rule. But that didn't matter to 45-year-old Sharmel Teague.  She, her husband, Larry Teague, 44, and son, Ramonyea Bishop, 23, are accused of going to the store shortly afterward and fatally attacking the security guard. All three face first-degree premeditated murder and firearms charges. Her daughter has not been charged.

Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton told a news conference on Monday that Sharmel Teague shouted at and spat on  Munerlyn before driving away in a red GMC Envoy. Later, she came back with the other family members and launched a fatal attack on the guard. Her son allegedly pulled the trigger. The prosecutor told reporters, "The death of Calvin Munerlyn is senseless and tragic, and those responsible will be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law." Munerlyn's mother, Bernadett, shared,  "All my baby was doing was his job." A GoFundMe page set up for Munerlyn's funeral has raised $319,904 at the time of this publication. According to the page, he leaves behind eight children.

According to FOX News, Leyton added, "There's just no excuse for someone to take this kind of an action over this kind of an issue." "This was totally uncalled for. He didn't bother a soul," his friend Bryant Nolden also said. "It's so devastating that he shouldn't have lost his life by trying to save lives," his uncle Ramon Munerlyn shared. Munerlyn ordered Teague to put a mask on when she came in on May 1 and that's when police say she began yelling and spitting on him. According to surveillance "The video shows the same vehicle returning approximately 20 minutes later," Leyton said.

Teague's husband and her 23-year-old son, Ramon Bishop, then ran into the store. "One of the Black males [seen in the surveillance video] started yelling at Munerlyn about disrespecting his wife, the other Black male then walks up to Munerlyn and shoots Munerlyn," Leyton said.  Munerlyn was shot in the back of the head and later died at the hospital. His family says the lovable father of 6 children and 3 stepchildren was a family man through and through. "His main focus on anything 24/7 was his mama, his kids and his wife," his uncle said. "All he did was rip and run and try to help everybody. He put everybody before him." He was such a helpful person that his mom even gave him the nickname 'Super Duper'.

Nearly a dozen charges were filed against Sharmel Teague, her husband, and her son. The charges include first-degree murder, felony firearm, and violation of the executive order.
"They are armed and dangerous but we will bring them to justice," Leyton said.  Teague has been put behind bars but the others are still on the loose. A $1,000 reward is being offered to help find Larry Teague and Ramon Bishop. "I got something to say to these individuals," his uncle said. "They took him away from his mama and his wife and his kids for something so stupid." His GoFundMe page reads: Duper was a hard working, father and husband who lost his life while doing his job securing the place of business and asking all customers to wear a mask for our own safety as well as others. He leaves behind 8 amazing kids, a super loving wife, & his wonderful mother. Thank you for the donations. God bless
