First Lady Melania Trump is being recognized by Palm Beach Atlantic University for her 'Be Best' initiative that focuses on problems faced by children including their well-being, online safety, and opioid abuse.
First Lady Melania Trump has been honored with the title "Women of Distinction" for the year 2020. She has been recognized for her contributions to society by a university in Florida, particularly her work with children as part of the White House initiative, "Be Best." She will be named an honoree at the annual luncheon held by the Palm Beach Atlantic University for the Women of Distinction event. This is a charity event, the proceeds from which will be used as a scholarship fund for female students at the university. The event will be held at The Breakers resort on February 19.
"In her role as First Lady, Mrs. Trump focuses her time on the many issues affecting children. An unwavering characteristic of the First Lady is her aptitude for showing love and compassion in all that she does," Palm Beach Atlantic University said in a statement. "Mrs. Trump has traveled across the country and internationally to highlight programs and people who are dedicated to helping children overcome these modern-day concerns." The initiative by the first lady as part of the "Be Best" campaign aims to focus on the major problem faced by children and teach them the importance of social, physical and emotional health.
According to the campaign page, "BE BEST will concentrate on three main pillars: well-being, online safety, and opioid abuse." This initiative also extends beyond the US borders and lends a helping hand to children in Ghana, Kenya, and Cairo as well. “Our first lady is an exquisite human being, a magnificent wife and life partner, a superb mother and an outstanding first lady, who represents us brilliantly in the United States and worldwide,” Eileen Burns, co-chair of the event told the Palm Beach Post. “Melania is a perfect example of a Woman of Distinction and we are most proud to honor her.”
“First ladies define the history of our country,” said Frances Fisher. “We are honored to recognize Mrs. Trump as a Woman of Distinction and the only first lady since Mrs. Kennedy to be a Palm Beach resident. This will be a truly memorable event.”

This comes at a time when her husband is going through an impeachment process and almost on the verge of declaring war on Iran. Trump had mocked Greta Thunberg the teenage climate change activist from Sweden and Melania failed to make a comment against his comments. Social media users trended "#BeBest" to point out the first lady's hypocrisy. The award committee must have also overlooked Trump's separation policy at the borders. This policy has led to the split-up of families where the children removed from their parents are put in cages at detention centers, while Melania Trump argues about a remark that used the name of her son to make a point.
