Their son was named in honor of Culkin's late sister who was killed in a road accident in 2008.
It's hard to believe a former child actor, best known for his roles in the Home Alone movies, Macaulay Culkin is now a dad! The 40-year-old and his partner, Brenda Song, who played London Tipton in The Suite Life of Zack & Cody, are parents to their first child. They welcomed their son named Dakota Song Culkin, on Monday, April 5 in Los Angeles, PEOPLE reports. "We're overjoyed," the couple said in a joint, brief statement. They also told PEOPLE that their son was named in honor of Culkin's late sister who was killed in a road accident in 2008.
Culkin met Strong on the set of their film Changeland in Thailand. The two were first spotted together in July 2017 grabbing dinner at an Italian restaurant. For the most part, the couple has been quite private about their relationship. However, Song posted a sweet Instagram message to Culkin in August on his 40th birthday. The 33-year-old wrote: Happy 40th birthday to this magical being. I could sit here and write endlessly about how wonderful, kind, loving, genuine, loyal, honest, brilliant, and hilarious you are, and how grateful I am that I get to share and do this life thing with you. But firstly, that would take me an eternity, and secondly, you won't even see this because you don't ever use instagram. Hahaha. My unicorn that I never thought could exist, I am luckiest person in the world because I am loved by you.
The two have been trying to have a baby for a while now. Culkin appeared on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast in 2018 and said, "This one's a good one, so I'm probably going to put some babies in her in a little bit," Culkin said, laughing. "I mean, we've definitely been practicing." He revealed that he and Song have "a good life."
"I have a pretty little family — a pretty girl, a pretty dog, a pretty cat, and all that stuff. We're gonna move," he said at the time. "We're doing the house thing and all that kind of stuff." In February 2020, the actor appeared on the cover of Esquire where he spoke further about their continued efforts to conceive a baby. "We practice a lot," Culkin said. "We're figuring it out, making the timing work."
Professionally, the actor has appeared on screen in the past decade only a small number of times. In 2019, he appeared in one episode of Hulu’s comedy-drama Dollface. From 2005 to 2010, he had voice roles in several episodes on Robot Chicken. Speaking to Esquire he admitted, "I enjoy acting. I enjoy being on set," he said. "I don’t enjoy a lot of the other things that come around it. What’s a good analogy. The Shawshank Redemption. The way he gets out of prison is to crawl through a tube of shit, you know? It feels like to get to that kind of freedom, I’d have to crawl through a tube of shit. And you know what? I’ve built a really nice prison for myself. It’s soft. It’s sweet. It smells nice. You know? It’s plush."
He added, "People assume that I’m crazy, or a kook, or damaged. Weird. Cracked. And up until the last year or two, I haven’t really put myself out there at all. So I can understand that. It’s also like, Okay, everybody, stop acting so freaking shocked that I’m relatively well-adjusted." As for Song, she told the magazine, "People don’t realize how incredibly kind and loyal and sweet and smart he is. Truly what makes Mack so special is that he is so unapologetically Mack. He knows who he is, and he’s 100 percent okay with that. And that to me is an incredibly sexy quality."
Culkin will next be seen on the 10th season of the acclaimed show, American Horror Story, alongside Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters. As we previously mentioned. Season 10 will premiere in 2021.
