Trigger Warning: This story contains details of animal abuse that readers may find disturbing
It's so heartbreaking to see people dump their pets on the streets like they are trash. I don't understand how they can overlook the fact that these animals have feelings just like we do. A heartless woman in Pennsylvania certainly did not have these thoughts before she ruthlessly threw her dog into the garbage and moved to another state to live with her boyfriend. The dog named Fawna had a rather tough life right from the beginning as she lived with a woman who should never have been allowed to keep any pets. The pooch was grossly neglected for years by her owner who tragically starved her until she was reduced to just skin and bones.
If this wasn't enough, she just decided to up and leave one day to be with her boyfriend who lived in Texas. Not one did Fawna's well-being cross her mind when she decided to leave her home. She could have easily contacted an animal shelter and given her up but she chose to stuff her in a trash bag and throw her in the garbage. For three days, the helpless dog was stuck in the bin. She was in this distressing situation because of the person who was supposed to love and protect her. Just as she was losing hope of ever being rescued and loved by anyone, a garbage collector arrived there to empty the garbage can.
At first glance, Nathan Binni was taken aback to see the heartbreaking condition of the pooch. "It was shocking to see an animal like that, and I just wanna make sure everything’s okay," Binni told WTAE-TV. Fawna was deprived of food to such an extent that her spine and ribs were only covered by a thin layer of skin. Thus, Binni immediately, offered his lunch to the dog hoping that it would help sustain her a bit longer. Next, he transported her to the Humane Society of Westmoreland County where veterinarian Megan Fritz examined and treated her.
Fawna had a long road ahead to fully recover and achieve the necessary weight. Slowly but surely her condition improved and Fawna. In the due course of her recovery, she touched Megan, the vet who treated her, so much that she decided to give her a new, loving home. Thanks to her, the adorable dog was able to begin a new chapter in her life and recover from the abandonment issues that her previous owner had left her with. As for her owner, police were able to identify her as Nicole Baker because the dog had been chipped. In no time they tracked her down and took her into custody for subjecting her pet to the horrific ordeal.
It wasn't like dumping her dog was the only option for Baker. According to reports, her friends asked her if she needed someone to take her dog in before she left her home. But she simply asked them not to bother themselves with it and chose to starve and throw her away. Sadly, she just didn't care for Fawna and such a person does not deserve to have any animal in their home. Baker was eventually charged with animal cruelty and fined $600. She was also ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation examination and complete community service. She is also barred from having or adopting any pets at least in Pennsylvania.
