Dwayne Johnson, Wife, And Daughters Aged 4 & 2, All Test Positive For COVID-19: "Wish It Was Only Me"

Johnson broke the news in a video he posted on Instagram and assured fans he and his family were on the "other side" of the disease

Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and his family have tested positive for coronavirus. Johnson broke the news via a video message posted on his Instagram page on Thursday. Johnson's family includes his wife, Lauren Hashien and their two baby girls, Jasmine, 4, and Tiana, 2. He said the news was akin to a "kick in the gut" and that his first priority was the protection of his family. He assured fans that they were on the "other side" of the disease and are thankfully healthy. The 11-minute video has since been viewed thousands of times within a few hours of being uploaded with many fans wishing Johnson and his family a speedy recovery. He captioned the video asking his followers to "Boost your immune system" and to "wear your masks" and follow other protocols to protect against the disease and help prevent its spread.

Johnson began on a sombre note but flashed his big smile as he spoke and said, "I wanted to give you guys a little helpful update on things that have been going on on my end for the past two-and-a-half to three weeks now. So the update is this: my wife Lauren as well as my two baby girls and myself, we have all tested positive for COVID-19. I could tell you that this has been one of the most challenging and difficult things we have ever had to endure as a family, and for me, too, personally as well. And I've gone through some doozies in the past." Johnson said while he had seen a number of setbacks in his past, being infected by the coronavirus as a family was "different" from any of those experiences.

The Jumanji star said, "Testing positive for COVID-19 is much different than overcoming nasty injuries, or being evicted, or even being broke, which I have been more than a few times." Explaining why it is so different, he noted it's "because my No.1 priority is to always protect my family. And protect my children, my loved ones" while adding that the same will be the case for anyone who had contracted the dreaded disease. Johnson also wished it was only him who was positive with the virus but is now relieved that things are now going fine. He said, "I wish it was only me who tested positive, but it wasn't, it was my entire family, so this one was a real kick in the gut. But I am happy to tell you guys that we as a family are good. We're on the other end of it, we're on the other side. We're no longer contagious, and we are — thank God — we are healthy."

Regarding particular effects of the virus on his family members, The Rock said, "So for our babies, Jazzy and Tia, they had a little sore throat the first couple of days, but other than that, they bounced back and, and it's been life as normal, happy babies running around and playing." The Fast and Furious star also shed light on how the virus reached them and said it was from some "close family friends" who are "devastated" that they unwittingly spread the virus. He added,  "We are counting our blessings right now because we're well aware that it isn't always the case that you get on the other end of COVID-19 stronger and healthier. I have had some of my best friends have lost their parents, their loved ones, to this virus that is so incredibly relentless and unforgiving, and it is insidious."

Johnson said his fans knew him as a "disciplined guy" when it came to health and fitness, and that he and his family had taken stringent measures since March to prevent its spread. Johnson had not been working since then. With the virus reaching them despite such measures, he said he is going to be more strict and talked about bringing new rules into his household.  "If you guys are having family and friends over to your house, you know them, you trust them. They can be quarantining just like you guys. You still never know. You never know. Don't let your guard down, boosts your immunity with antioxidants, vitamins, things of that nature," he added.

Johnson asked his fans to be responsible and follow all the measures to protect themselves and others from the disease. He also addressed the lax attitude of some people and politicians towards the disease. "The other thing is wear your mask, we have been in quarantine for months, we wear our masks every day. This baffles me that some people out there, including some politicians, will take this idea of wearing mask and make it a political agenda of a political agenda, politicizing. It has nothing to do in politics. Wear your mask. It is a fact, and it is the right thing to do. And it's the responsible thing to do," he continued. He also spoke about his mother who has a pre-existing lung condition but still wears a mask to protect herself and others as an example. Johnson isn't the only celebrity to have been infected with the coronavirus. Back in March, Tom Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson had tested positive for the virus, but have since recovered.Other celebrities include Bryan Cranston and Idris Elba, who have also recovered.
