"I gathered as much information as I could about everyone in the audience and ultimately, Oscar's story moved me," the star said.
Dwayne Johnson had a heartwarming surprise waiting for one of his fans at a special screening for his recent film Red Notice. The 49-year-old shared a heartwarming video on Instagram yesterday, showing how he gifted his own "personal custom truck" Navy vet Oscar Rodriguez after hearing his incredible story. "Today was a good day," Johnson captioned the video he posted on Wednesday. "Merry Christmas [Rodriguez] and enjoy your new truck. I invited fans to a special theater screening of 'Red Notice' and I wanted to do something cool for all of them."
"Free concessions, @projectrock, @teremana, @zoaenergy, @saltandstraw ice cream. Free everything and a great time at the movies! I also wanted to do something big... something massive... something unforgettable for one fan," Johnson continued. "My original idea was to give away the Porsche Taycan, that I drive in the movie, 'Red Notice.' So we reached out to Porsche, but they said no. But I still said, yes. I'll do one better. I'll give away my personal custom truck as the gift. My baby. I gathered as much information as I could about everyone in the audience and ultimately, Oscar's story moved me."
The Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw star shared that Rodriguez "takes care of his 75-year-old mom. Personal trainer. Leader at his church. Provides support and meals for women victimized by domestic violence. Proud & humble Navy veteran. Kind human being." In the video, Johnson is seen surprising his fans by showing up at the screening before telling them about Rodriguez. "There's a dude here. I read his story and I was really impressed with the story, too. I want to highlight him. His name is Oscar Rodriguez," the actor tells the audience.
Calling him down to the front, Johnson then proceeded to tell Rodriguez how moved he was after hearing of all the good work the veteran has been doing. "Your story really moved me, because I hear that you're a personal trainer. You're always keeping it positive and motivational and optimistic. You're a leader in your church. You support and you help make meals for women victims who've been abused by domestic violence," the star told Rodriguez in front of moviegoers. Visibly moved by Johnson's words of respect, Rodriguez said: "I'm just speechless. I'm so glad to meet you, I feel so encouraged right now, so uplifted."
"I'm encouraged by your motivation. I follow you on Instagram, I listen to your words. You inspire me. And yeah, let's do it. Let's change the world, one person, at a time," he added. After seeing Rodriguez drive off with his new truck, Johnson reflected on the moment, saying: "[It was] just an honor for me to give a little bit of joy to someone who deserves a lot more than just my truck." The actor then laughed and added that he had to "figure out how I'm getting home. Cause I don't have my ride."
Rodriguez also reflected on the unforgettable moment on his Instagram, sharing a photo of himself and his brand new truck. "I have no words to express how blessed and grateful I am !! Again no words only scripture," the personal trainer wrote before quoting the Bible, "With my whole heart, with my whole life, and with my innermost being, I bow in wonder and love before you, the holy God! Yahweh, you are my soul's celebration. How could I ever forget the miracles of kindness you've done for me?" Psalms 103:1-2 TPT."
