Mom Poisoned & Scalded Twins Because They Wouldn’t Let Her Sleep, And Spent 4 Days With Their Bodies

"I just gave up and stopped caring," the mother said. "I didn’t care about the babies, that’s why I poisoned them."

Trigger warning: The story contains details of child abuse that might be distressing to some readers.

A young mother was arrested for brutally ending the lives of her twin babies by poisoning and scalding them because they wouldn't let her sleep. Before spending four days with the corpses of her twins, 23-year-old Danezja Kilpatrick tried to poison her babies, Dallis and Dakota Bentley, by adding Pine-Sol to their milk. But when feeding them the poisoned milk didn't work, Danezja then scalded her 6-week-old babies by placing them in a bathtub and running hot water over their tiny bodies, according to New York Post.

After she noticed that her baby girl, Dakota, stopped crying, Danezja wrapped the infant up in a pink blanket and placed her inside a black plastic bag. While the baby girl's body was found under the kitchen sink, the baby boy was discovered by the police in a more horrifying state.

Sickening details from the case revealed that little Dallis managed to survive his mother's attempts of poisoning and scalding him to death. Yet, the mother still took his life, and the baby boy was found lying face down in a bassinet with a knife sticking out of his neck when the police arrived. For about four days, Danezja stayed in her apartment in Queens, New York, with the corpses of her twin babies until the police arrived for a wellness check, requested by her cousin, as reported by New York Daily News. "I didn’t want them anymore," Danezja was quoted telling the police who arrived at the scene. "They are dead."

Prosecutors revealed that the mother told officers after her arrest: "The babies wouldn’t let me sleep. I just gave up and stopped caring. I didn’t care about the babies, that’s why I poisoned them." While the mother told the police she had no help with the babies and that she didn't know who their father was, Danezja's sister said she had been helping her take care of the babies and would often pay a visit to her apartment.

The sister, Quanteya Kilpatrick, revealed that she noticed something different when she arrived at Danezja's apartment on the day the twins were murdered. At first, Danezja would not let her in. Then, "as soon as I walked in I knew something was off. Something was giving me bad vibes... There were no baby clothes, no baby bottles. She told me the babies were with their father," Quanteya told New York Daily News. The cousin who made the 911 call, Keywona Llanos, an NYPD housing officer, said: "This is really a tragedy for the whole family. I don’t know what to say. I’m at a loss for words."

As Quanteya struggles with knowing what happened to her nephew and niece, she said, "I just don’t know what happened. I loved them so much. They were the best. I would have done anything for them." According to Metro, Danezja faces murder charges as well as charges of endangering the welfare of a child and weapons possession. She is due to appear in court on May 21.
