Wet Pants Denim's CEO said they are catering to a demographic that have a "fetish wherein they pee their pants because they like the way it looks"
Nothing says comfort like a pair of denim. But what if we told you that there is a trend of wet denim that has caught people's fancy? Wet Pants Denim is a company that claims to sell denim that looks like someone has wet themselves. "Wet Look, Dry Feel. Our jeans are designed to mimic the aesthetic of urinary incontinence without the commonly associated discomfort," the company said on Instagram. Its website says, "Our jeans are individually procured for each order and hand-dyed, ensuring that every pair is one-of-a-kind." Surely, this has to be a joke?
A reviewer for Mel magazine decided to find out. WPD’s CEO apparently sent the writer a pair of their flagship pants, which was delivered within a day along with a note to "Wear ‘em proud." While the fit was good, the writer admitted that "I tried to act normal. I really did. But the jeans, man. I wasn’t up to perform the nonchalance the jeans demanded. I could not, in the end, 'wear ‘em proud.'"
"Some folks have a fetish wherein they pee their pants because they like the way it looks," explained Wet Pants Denim’s CEO, who chose to remain anonymous, when contacted over email. "There’s an obvious downside to this, though, in that you’re inevitably wet for hours. I wanted to provide a solution to those underserved consumers, so that they no longer had to be wet, and could have a sustained ‘wet pants’ look as long as they please. The beauty of Instagram’s advertising platform is that you can target any demographic you like. I’ve been going for young adults in major cities with interests in fashion, online shopping, and other similar interests. It’s been a good experiment, from a branding perspective, to see which garner the most active engagement, and we’re always learning."
The CEO and the company have been making many cheeky remarks when it comes to the brand. Talking about their ideal consumer, he says, "We want people who are comfortable in their own skin and not afraid to make a bold statement. The Wet Pants Denim jean is style agnostic, and pairs just as well with a white T-shirt as it does a full tuxedo." As to where they market their product apart from Instagram and their website, he shared, " So far, we’re just using the advertising platform on Instagram and our website to get the word out. I’d love to get an influencer onboard, but none have caught the line yet. Kylie Jenner, for example, displayed the wet pants look on Snapchat in 2016, and it would be amazing for the brand if she did something like that again."
According to Cosmopolitan, Kendall and Kylie Jenner filmed a "Drunk Getting Ready With Me" video for Kylie’s YouTube where at one point Kylie seemed to have peed her pants from laughing so hard. The video showed her booty to the camera where her jeans seemed totally wet. In the video, Kylie repeats "I peed my pants" multiple times while cry-laughing. The Keeping Up With the Kardashians star seemed to be having fun while drinking tequila and doing their makeup and the resulting pee pants seemed accidental.
