Kate Hudson Found The Father She Needed In Kurt Russell After She Felt Abandoned By Birth Father

Hollywood star Kate Hudson opens up about how it felt to be abandoned by her biological father and being grateful to Kurt Russell, her mother's boyfriend back then, who raised her and her brother.

The most important people who shape a child's life are parents. But not everyone is lucky enough to experience a stable family structure. It gets even more complicated when one would have to navigate the public eye while trying to maintain a well-balanced relationship. The feeling of hurt that might come with it also stays for a very long time. Hollywood star, Kate Hudson has experienced the pain of having an estranged father who took his two eldest children for the longest time. She then found fatherly love in someone else.

Singer and actor Bill Hudson had Kate and Oliver with Goldie Hawn during their marriage from 1976 to 1982. The kids were brought up by Hawn's boyfriend at the time, Kurt Russell who filled in the shoes of the father they never had. "Kurt is my dad,” Kate told Vanity Fair in a past interview as reported by Radar Online. “Kurt is a savior who came into my life. [Bill] was sort of in and out of our lives. I don’t hate him for it. I guess what I feel is frustration and curiosity — like, what was it about me he didn’t want to know?"

She has even publicly expressed her disappointment with her biological father, "[Bill Hudson] doesn’t know me from a hole in the wall. But I don’t care. I have a dad [Russell]. The bottom line is, you call your kids on their f**king birthday. I’m glad I had a dad who was there on my birthday," she reportedly said. The father and daughter opened up about their relationship after a long time and even had a public spat. “At first it was okay when everybody was getting along, but there were certain things I didn’t like. I didn’t like that Goldie wanted the kids to call Kurt ‘pa,'" Bill said in an exclusive interview.

Kate and Oliver found a father in Russell whom Kate even refers to as "Pa." She went as far as wishing Russell for Father's Day by posting a picture on her Instagram with the caption, "Pa, just simply..... Thank you. Happy Fathers Day I love you to the moon and back." Her elder brother was also brutal in his opinion about their father when he posted a picture taken of Bill, Kate and himself back in the day with the caption, "Happy abandonment day..." The siblings have a hit podcast together called "Sibling Revelry" in which they discuss their "unstable" dynamics of their childhood including their introduction to Russell when they were 3 and 6 years old.

"It was the first time she brought him to the house, it wasn't the first date," Kate narrated on the podcast. "Mom said that's when she fell in love with Kurt –right away was because she brought him back to the house and we had already been asleep, and we shared a room... and he sat down next to each of us, he sat down next to you first and watched you sleep and then came by."

Russell and Hawn have been together since and created a semblance of a family for the now 40-year-old Kate and 43-year-old Oliver.

After the much publicly fared family war, the children and their biological father have come to talking terms with each other. Russell went on to explain to E!News that, "I understood Oliver's sense of humor and since then, there's been some nice back and forth between Bill and Oliver and that's nice to see."

Kate has also publicly come out and tried to make peace with her father, "I think forgiveness in any aspect is something that is complex. It is the greatest tool to be able to separate that attachment. So for me, I recognize whatever those issues are is something he has to live with. That must be painful for him and I forgive him," she said.
