46-Year-Old Woman Who Recently Lost Her Sons In Car Crashes, Mauled To Death By Pit Bulls

In a tragic incident, a woman was killed on Thursday morning after being attacked by two pit bulls she was dog-sitting. Trena Peed, a 46-year-old North Carolina grandmother was dog sitting for two pit bulls when she let the animals out of the backyard of her Greensboro home at about 2:00 a.m. Neighbors saw the animals viciously attack her and others heard her cries for help. Peed's son was inside the home at the time of the attack and woke up to find out his mother was dead. “It’s terrible. She got mauled to death. That’s terrible,” said Johnson, Peed’s neighbor and friend of over 15 years to WGHP. “We were really good friends. She and my wife talked together a lot. We were just friends. It’s terrible, even If I didn’t know her at all, I don’t care who it was.”

Officers arrived on the scene after neighbors called for help. Johnson said, “The only thing I know is I heard some shots. I looked out the window, and the ambulance trucks, and fire trucks, everybody was there before I even heard the shots.” Police said they had to shoot one of the dogs to stop the attack. “Shots fired,” could be heard on traffic radio. “I got one dog down, it’s another one out here.” The surviving dog is with  Guilford County Animal Services in quarantine. “It’s a terrible way to go. I wish the family the best,” Johnson continued. “She was doing something good and died behind it and died a tragic death.”

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family pay for Peed's funeral. Peed's daughter, Waynesha Peed, wrote: My mom was tragically taken away from us by a vicious attack from dogs. My mom has always been a true example of strength, love, and determination. My siblings, grandmother, family, & I are heartbroken at her sudden passing. She has endured and overcame so much, most recently losing two of her sons 2 years apart, both by tragic car accidents. By her faith, she always had a smile on her face that could light up any room, loved to laugh, cook, enjoy life & had a heart of gold. My family & I are asking if you could help to bring her home to Virginia & make arrangements for her homegoing service. Anything given is greatly appreciated! Thank you all in advance, just keep praying over our family.

The page has raised $17,635 so far. The victim’s mother told her daughter she had concerns about the pit bulls, according to WFMY News 2.  “I understand it was not intentional but I just talked to my daughter on Tuesday and I told her you need to get (those) dogs out of your house,” mother Helen Harris told the outlet, adding, “Whoever the owner is, they need to come forward because they say they love my daughter. This is not showing love for her right now."

An investigation looking for the owners of the animals is currently underway.
